Here are some things to think about:
  • How can I get students interest at the beginning of the lesson?
  • How can I set the context / warm up the topic / activate background knowledge?
  • Does the language need to be scaffolded?
  • Do I need to scaffold some expressions or vocabulary?
  • Do I need to help students to understand the meaning of new words and phrases?
  • How can I check this?
  • Can I use celebrities or cartoon characters to make the examples more fun?
  • Do I need to provide visual support?
  • What materials do I need?
  • When do I show the materials and when do I pass them out?
  • Are there extra materials to add more fun?
  • How can I set up the main task(s)?
  • How can I demonstrate?
  • How can I check students have understood the instructions?
  • Do students need time to prepare (mentally, discussing ideas or writing notes)?
  • What kind of groupings do I need?
  • Are there any extra rules like time limit, penalties, or fake examples to make the activity more fun?
  • Is it a good communicative activity? Can I make it more communicative?
  • Will I join groups together to share answers?
  • How will I close the activity?
  • Does it need to be extended with extra questions?
  • Is one main activity enough? Do I need a series of linked activities?
  • How can students personalize the language?
  • How can I check the results?
  • Do I need to include some finishing steps like comparing answers or checking winners?
  • What is a nice way to finish the lesson?
