Midterm - Speaking Test Interviews
College of English: Speaking Tests (Edward Povey)
What:
Individual 10-minute speaking test interviews.
When:
Week 9 (May 1st and 2nd) and Week 10 (May 8th and 9th). Students will have one speaking test in Week 9 or Week 10.
Who:
Each student will take the speaking test individually with Edward.
How:
The schedule will be made during class. Each student will be assigned a 10-minute slot in Week 9 or Week 10.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time.
You only need to attend for your test — there are no regular classes these weeks.
You don’t need to bring anything (no textbooks, pencils, etc.).
Why:
The speaking test is designed to assess your fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. You are not being tested on your knowledge or memorization of content.
Test Format:
The test format is similar to IELTS speaking test.
The topics are taken from Units 1-4 of the textbook.

- Simple conversation — Topics related to everyday life.
- Prepared speech — You will receive a topic, have 1 minute to prepare, and then speak for 1-2 minutes. (I will provide pencil and paper for taking notes)
- Discussion — More complex questions related to part 2 topic about social or global issues.
The topics are taken from Units 1-4 of the textbook.

final - Creative Presentations
Creative Presentations - Final Speaking Assessment
Dates:
Week 15 (June 12/13) - Week 16 (June 19/20)
You can choose any topic from the textbook (Unit 1-10).
You can adapt the topic in any way you like.
For example, you can:
The focus of this presentation is “creativity” - Think “out of the box”
You are encouraged to interpret the topics and this presentation assignment in a creative way. Extra points will be given for inventive, fascinating, thought-provoking, and imaginative content.
Choose a specific field, problem/solution, story, innovation, technique, or purpose for your presentation. Consider your audience. What will be interesting for us?
There are various types of presentation.
Decide which type you want to do.

- Students will individually prepare and present on a topic related to the textbook.
- There are several topic options to choose.
- Presentations will be 3-6 minutes each.
- Props and presentation (PPT) can be used.
You can choose any topic from the textbook (Unit 1-10).
You can adapt the topic in any way you like.
For example, you can:
- include personal examples and opinions
- include new examples and new information
- link the topic to Korea
- include more up-to-date information
The focus of this presentation is “creativity” - Think “out of the box”
