Week 1
Welcome! If you have any questions, please send me an email ([email protected]). You can look at these sections each week to check the homework and download the presentation files.
There are two pieces of homework set in Week 1 (see below A, B). This is due at the end of Week 2.
The Discussion Board has been deleted and so you do not need to do discussion board homework.
A. Questionnaire for students

1. Why are you interested in learning and teaching English?
2. What other subjects (courses, degree, major, modules, etc.) have you studied?
3. Do you have any teaching experience? Give details. (students, level, age, location, etc.)

Week 6
Due in Week 10: Mid-semester Project: Lesson Plan & Materials 1
Create a detailed lesson plan and create or adapt materials for a speaking lesson. The lesson plan should include an SLO and all the materials to be used in the lesson. Example lesson plans can be found in the coursebook.
First draft: Week 8 (you do not need to submit this)
Second draft: Week 9 (we will meet on campus to discuss this - please have it ready for feedback)
Final draft due: Week 10

Start planning your EIF lesson plan! See the files and info in Week 6. Also, watch the second Week 3 video with the monsters lesson to see how I structured an EIF lesson.
Here are steps to plan your lesson:
1. First, choose your target language. Remember, it should be useful and suitable for the level. Don't try to teach too many new words and expressions. See this document to get some ideas:

Here are steps to plan your lesson:

2. Create a fluency activity for the end of your lesson (for example a survey, information gap, interview, questionnaire, role play, etc.). The fluency activity should allow all the students to use the target language. You can now also create your SLO statement.
3. Now you can start developing your lesson with activities to scaffold students until the fluency activity. Remember to introduce the target language slowly, for example you can teach the vocabulary early in the lesson and then teach the full expressions later. Give lots of opportunities for practice before the fluency activity.
4. Create or find the materials for your lesson. Remember- you need to include all the materials, too!
